Description
I did some research on this species and have edited my former description where I called this a moth. This is a BUTTERFLY! There are many points which make the two difficult to distinguish. This one is considerd a butterfly although has some distiguishing points a moth might have. The scientific name of this is "Epargyreus ciarus", and the common name is a "Silver Spotted Skipper"! They prefer flowers that are blue, red, pink, or purple, but almost never yellow! This colorful Silver Spotted Skipper butterfly was enjoying this Petunia nectar in my garden.
