Description
This is young male ruby throated hummingbird. His wing stance is an unusual capture. You will see three white tips on the ends of the wings. This will be the same on both sides. When mature these will disappear. Females will always have the white tips on the ends of all tail feathers. The speckled throat will stay that way until he flies to the Carribean ( or there abouts) for the winter. When he returns north after the winter he will have a deep ruby throat. Hummingbirds will come back to and go to the same feeding areas all along their 1000 mile flights. Each hummingbird will travel a predestined route. They will not have the same exact route of their parents or siblings. When a hummingbird leaves the nest on the first day it is considered an adult automatically begins to fend for itself. A most intriguing little creature! This image can be found in my "Hummingbirds" gallery on FAA. FAA watermark will not appear on image once it is purchased.
