This is a painting of Pope Francis with his name saint, Saint Francis of Assisi. This was created in the new technique I have been developing this year. This is the fourth painting in this technique and the most laborious so far! I was thrilled when Pope Francis was chosen and took the name Francis. St. Francis is a favorite patron saint of mine and I had what some call an epiphany at his tomb in the lovely Cathedral in Assisi about 10 years ago. I have been just thrilled at the way our new Pope is going about his ministry with humility, and a real feeling for the poor and disadvantaged and marginalized people of this world. His way of reaching out is a symbol of faith and Christianity toward all human beings. Whether or not you share the Catholic faith, It is important to the world to have a leader whose walk and talk both are faithful and humble. I had an immediate vision of this painting when I first learned of Pope Francis' election. I envisioned it in my minds eye...
About Judy Via-Wolff
I have a great love for nature and all God's creation. In any artworks or photos I create, I try to reflect a moment of fleeting beauty as all things are but for an instant. I love to paint and use pastels. I paint in oils, acylics, and water colors depending on the piece. I also pursue the medieval technique of egg tempera painting.I also have begun digital painting which I create from scratch with a stylus. Photography also provides an instant in time. Judy has a BFA and a Masters Degree From RIT"S School for American Craftsman and Fine art. She spent many years as a glass artist and was able to reflect the light and colors of God's creation through this medium. She won many awards over the years and enjoyed creating new works...
