Title
White Ibis in the Mangroves
Artist
Judy Via-Wolff
Medium
Painting - Egg Tempera Paint
Description
This is the second in my sea bird series. I spend hours photographing these birds in various places, particularly the mangroves. I then use the ancient technique of eggtempera painting in it's purist form as taught by my good friend and teacher who is dedicated to this medieval technique. Egg and natural ground pigments are used only as opposed to more modern egg tempera painters who use oil in combination with the pigments. The process is slow and takes many many hours and many layers. It will probably be awhile before I post another sea bird in this technique. Please visit: temperaworkshop.com to view both medieval and recent student work and to gain an understanding of this technique of the old masters. It may interest some to know that the White Ibis was a highly honored bird in ancient Egyptian culture. For me, like the Blue Heron it is another favorite bird of mine, living as God created it. I hope we don't destroy the environment of these awesome sea birds.
