Description
I have a 92 year old friend who asked me to repair this crucifix which was brought to this country from Italy about 100 years ago. It was badly broken with large sections of the bodyand arms missing. It took me many months and layers to reconstruct the corpus. This image was taken during the process of the repair which is not totally complete in this image. It gives the feeling of being at the foot of the cross. Ironically it was sort of a healing endeavor for me as I worked on this and in it's completion I felt a lift in my personal life. It felt kind of like now that the corpus was complete a ressurection could take place. Seemed symbolic. My friend presented this to her grandaughter for her wedding and I was glad I could do it. I do repair old plaster religious statues for people and each time I do one I have sense of peace and accomplishment. While I do completely celebrate my faith, the beauty of it also is that I have very close friends of all faiths and to me this is part of the true meaning of faith and brotherhood / sisterhood.
