Ptg Sparrow with Pink Dogwood in the Rain

Painting - Egg Tempera Painting
Description
I am dedicating this painting to my father who passed away when when I was just a young girl. He loved sparrows and called them his "Little Sputsy's". He was able to tame wild creatures like birds and squirrels like no one I have ever known and had them eating out of his hand. The pink dogwood blossoms are for my Mom and are included as a memory of the pink dogwood tree we bought for her. So this is a little tribute in a way to both of my parents. This Painting is done in the ancient medievil style of Egg Tempera painting which was prolific in the 1400's, to 1500's. This involves making the board and the seven layers of a base to paint on. The pigments are natural ground pigments which are combined with egg as a binder. The paint is applied in tiny strokes with multi zero brushes. Each area has about 7 layers built upon layer which give the jewel like tone. These take many weeks and hours to complete due to the delicate process and one must bring themself to a quiet and peaceful state of mind in order to become one with this process. Thanks Anna, appreciate, I know from gallery that you are so good with detail. it is so necessary with egg tempera. I often try to get "away" from detail when I paint with acrylics however I do enjoy both.
